The Nuclear Threat Initiative(NTI) is a non-profit organization located Washington, D.C. The NTI describes itself as a "nonprofit, nonpartisan global security organization focused on reducing nuclear and biological threats imperiling humanity." It was founded in 2001 by former U.S. Senator Sam Nunn and billionaire Robert Edward Turner III. 




The NTI was founded on 1/8/2001,  the 666th month after the Trinity Test on 6/16/1945, code name for the first nuclear bomb ever dropped, and 555 months after the creation of CERN on 9/29/1954.
