Willard Herman Scott Jr. (March 7, 1934 – September 4, 2021) was an American radio and television personality whose broadcast career spanned 68 years, he was the creator and original performer of McDonald's mascot clown Ronald McDonald.




Ronald McDonald was interpreted in commercials and in TV and cinema apparitions from 1985 to 1991 by American actor Squire Fridell who was born 1000 days after the founding of McDonald’s.








In the Washington, D.C. area, during the Sixties, Bozo the Clown, a children's TV character that was franchised locally was used to help promote the local McDonald's franchise, owned by Oscar Goldstein and John Gibson. When Bozo went off the air in the D.C. marketplace, "Ronald McDonald, the Hamburger-Happy Clown" appeared as mascotte of McDonald’s. 




The inspiration for Ronald McDonald came directly from Bozo the Clown whose original performer was Vance DeBar Colvig Sr. (September 11, 1892 – October 3, 1967), known professionally as Pinto Colvig, who died 222 exact weeks before the serial killer nicknamed the Killer Clown kidnapped, raped, tortured and murdered his first victim on January 3, 1972






John Wayne Gacy (March 17, 1942 – May 10, 1994) was an American serial killer and sex offender who raped, tortured, and murdered at least 33 young men and boys in Norwood Park Township, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago.

He became known as the Killer Clown due to his public performances as "Pogo the Clown" or "Patches the Clown", personas he had devised, prior to the discovery of his crimes.
